December 22, 2011.  Asakusa, Japan.

I guess it’s safe to say Happy New Year now that it’s already January 3rd here in Japan.

When I was in Tokyo last month, I visited Asakusa’s Kaminarimon and took a couple of photos.  I was passing by the outer gate when I saw one guy taking a photo of the huge lantern’s bottom part.  So I went over to take a look, and this is what I found.  A wood carving of a dragon.  It’s amazing to see how such beautiful details are hidden away from the usual perspectives.
